April Recap

Golden Gate Fishermens Assc.
Golden Gate Fisherman’s Association,
April was a busy and productive month for the Golden Gate Fisherman’s Association, with our leadership and representatives actively involved in key meetings and initiatives to support the future of our fisheries.
John Atkinson, our representative for commercial passenger vessels on the Pacific Fishery Management Council, attended an important council meeting in San Jose. The meeting focused on setting the parameters for this year’s limited salmon season. John’s participation ensures that the voice of our fleet continues to be heard at the highest levels of fishery management.
Meanwhile, GGFA President Michael Rescino and Vice President James Smith traveled multiple times to the Sacramento Valley to observe salmon restoration efforts firsthand. They visited sites where the Bridge Group and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plan to release salmon fry into flooded rice fields. This innovative approach allows the fry to feed and grow before being released into the river, boosting their chances of survival as they journey to the ocean.
Additionally, GGFA’s Tim Klassen took part in groundfish meetings this month and shared encouraging news. Progress is being made in rebuilding and sustaining our groundfish fisheries—a critical area for many of our members.
As always, thank you for your continued support and dedication to our shared mission. We’ll keep working hard to protect our fisheries and the communities that depend on them.
Stay safe and fish on,
Golden Gate Fisherman’s Association
