The American Angler works hard for their catch

We opted to run down the beach to fish for yellows rather than fish for the temperamental albacore. We arrived at our destination in the afternoon and found good sign of fish, but no conditions. We saw 20-48lb yellowtail on most of the major spots, but failed to find conditions that would keep them biting. After chewing all our fingernails off, we got lucky and found a school that wanted to bite. We ended up having great action on the surface iron and flylined baits, only to be stopped by the cover of darkness. Catching a 48lb yellowtail on the surface plug in water shallow enough to see the bottom, is a once in a lifetime thrill that John Ito will never forget.
