Three Levels

We scratched out another day on this beautiful grade tuna and now that we have been here for a few days, there's been the opportunity to make observations.  Many people have improved their angling skills - touch fishing small sardines on 50 lb line and pulling hard once the fish is hooked.  One of the coolest things that has surfaced though is the third level fisherman.

In my 35 plus years of watching customers fish, I have taken note and categorized three levels of fisherman. First is the individual that is fairly new to the game... totally interested in gathering information, obtaining the right gear and obviously very excited to go fishing at any opportunity. The second is the individual that although is still learning has become more experienced at casting and overall more confident and comfortable with his or her surroundings. With these attributes when fish are biting and available it has become a little easier to get a bite however it is still all about numbers and how many fish they land.

This trip we have Ken Corwin, Adam Jonas, Jay Love and Jamie Lyons as examples of the third level. Although still open minded and learning, they have realized that it isn’t all about how many they catch - they truly enjoy helping others, hooking and handing fish to those that haven't had the opportunity to share their knowledge and they remember they were once in those shoes themselves. This has truly made the trip and we thoroughly enjoy watching and being a part of this great maturing adventure.
